Last year we experimented using markers that I had taped to a piece of paper with braille labels. While the student appreciated the gesture, we encountered the major problem that the student ended up with marker all over their hands. I wanted to find a solution for this year that would give the student a better experience and would also allow them to continue to participate in the activity.
I spoke to the vision teacher and they recommended triangle crayons as something more easily usable for the student. Upon buying the pack I printed braille labels of each colour of crayon. I did this using a brailling machine and sticker paper. I then cut them out and put them on each crayon. The student loved them and took them home to keep this year. Triangle crayons are great for motor skills and can help students with limb differences or motor concerns. Additionally, however, with a simple modification they come a great inclusivity tool for students who otherwise might be excluded or given an "alternative" (that often lacks creativity).
